Literacy at AJS

Our library is stocked with fiction and non-fiction books.

A group of story-tellers visit AJS to perform for the children.

 Creative Writing Club

Mrs Gipson holds a fantastic writing club year five, and year six children. Children from the top able literacy groups, Mrs Henson and Mrs Phillips, are given a chance to write anything they like during the time, and nobody has to listen to the teachers telling them what to write and when to write it. It’s on Wednesdays, from three thirty to four fifteen. Yes, a full hour of your hand acing, some of you might be saying, however you can spend time using laptops, in the ICT suite and for an added bonus you could be getting your work PUBLISHED! I have interviewed some children to ask what they think about literacy. They’re called Jasmine, and Mwaba.

What do you think of extended writing?

Mwaba: It’s really good.

Jasmine: I enjoy it however it would be nice to actually have some time to write what you want.

Mwaba: Yes Jasmine that would be great.

After reading this report what do you think of creative writing club?

Jasmine: It sounds fun and enjoyable.

Mwaba: I love the idea!
